SAIA Individual Awards 2019 press release
The South African Institute of Architects (SAIA) Individual Awards 2019 recipients were honoured at the SAIA 70th President inauguration of Professor Amira Osman held on Thursday 02 February 2023. The theme for the event was "What Does Transformation Look Like?".
The high-profile event was attended by government, industry, academic and professional leadership with the keynote address delivered by Judge Albie Sach.

The SAIA Individual Awards are presented to SAIA members following a call for nominations completed by its regional institutes which are ratified by the Board.
SAIA would like to congratulate and acknowledge the following recipients on being awarded the SAIA Individual Awards 2019.
- Gold Medal for Architecture (2019) in recognition of outstanding contribution to architecture was awarded to Carin Smuts and the late Rodney Choromanski.

- Gold Medal of Distinction (2019) in recognition of outstanding contribution to architecture through distinguished service to the profession was awarded to Professor Roger Fisher.

- Architectural Writers and Critics Award (2019) in recognition of a distinguished contribution to architectural criticism and/or writing was awarded to Professor Ora Joubert and Professor Lindsay Bremner.

- Life membership (2019) was conferred upon Michael William Kidd Sutton and Abdool Aziz Ahmed Tayob.
