MARINDA
SMALBERGER WINS THE COROBRIK ARCHITECTURAL STUDENT AWARD
Marinda Smalberger of the University of the Pretoria
has won the prestigious Corobrik Architectural Student of
the Year Award for 2007. Her entry is Entitled “Portal
to Pretoria, Establishing a Northern Gateway for the City.”
Seven finalists from Universities throughout South Africa
competed for this award at a function held at the ArchAfrica
2008 in Durban on Friday 15 February 2008.

COROBRIK SAIA AWARDS OF MERIT
Twenty two projects received the Corobrik SAIA Awards of Merit at a gala dinner which formed part of ArchAfrica 2008 and took place at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre in Durban on Saturday 16 February 2008.

ARCHAFRICA 2008
ArchAfrica 2008 took place at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre in Durban South Africa and was hosted by the South African Institute of Architects (SAIA) to much success and aplomb.
ArchAfrica 2008 saw the coming together of nearly 300 delegates from three separate architectural events into one gathering of leaders of architects. They were the Africa Union of Architects (AUA) Council meeting, the International Union of Architects (UIA) Council meeting and the South African Institute of Architects (SAIA) Board and Committee meetings.
SAIA PRESIDENTS AWARD
Please note that the deadline for
the SAIA PRESIDENTS AWARD
has been closed. This new award was introduced for the
first time this year for projects of a special nature completed
between 1995 and 2004. The award was open to all persons who
practice architecture in South Africa. Eleven entries
were received and the adjudication will take place over the
next few months. The President has expressed his satisfaction
at the level of interest and would like to thank the members
of the profession for the interest that was shown.
